I first met Matt Clayson when he was founding Executive Director at the Detroit Creative Corridor Center (now Design Core Detroit) and I was Chief of Staff at TechTown. Our organizations were given a joint grant to develop entrepreneurship programming for Detroit’s creative community. This was the early days of small business support and collaboration was new, and at times, challenging. Each organization was still trying to carve out their niche and often tasked to create similar programming to meet funder directives.

Real People Know Matt:

Real People Know Matt:
Todd Ridley, Friend and Colleague

Bryan and I met Matt and Kim through mutual friends nearly 15 years ago as they were starting their new life together in Detroit. Real People Know Matt:
Kim Clayson, Spouse and Co-Parent

matt clayson and family

Matt and I have grown up together from the time we were young college undergrads to middle-aged adulthood. And through it all—advocating for equality and tuition affordability on MSU’s campus, surviving law school and the bar exam, renovating a historic home, advancing careers, raising a family—one thing we’ve learned is that married life means sharing responsibility for building careers, making a home, and raising children. We share in a partnership.
